Museum of the Viking Age
Media Scenography
Under construction – Opening 2027
The Museum of the Viking Age aims to become the world’s leading institution on Viking history by combining scientific accuracy, immersive storytelling, and innovative design.
The museum seeks to balance education and emotion, allowing visitors to engage deeply with the material while learning through multi-sensory, layered experiences. The objects themselves are central, showcased through dynamic scenography and subtle technology that highlight their stories without distraction, all while maintaining top conservation standards.
Its expressive architecture provides both monumental spaces for Viking ships and intimate themed rooms for reflection, connected by a chronological pathway. Audiovisual and interactive media enhance engagement, making visitors active participants rather than passive observers.
The museum’s visual and media design, inspired by point cloud imagery from archaeological scans, blends scientific precision with abstraction, inviting imagination and emphasizing that our understanding of the Viking Age continues to evolve. Ultimately, architecture, scenography, and media come together to create a seamless fusion of research, emotion, and discovery.
My role: Concept Design and Art Direction for Media Scenography
Contractor: Ralph Appelbaum Associates and Tamschick Media+Space
Opening: 2027
